Teams and individuals need creativity and analytical thinking skills to solve problems, identify opportunities, implement initiatives and manage change. This very enjoyable Creative Thinking & Problem Solving course provides an opportunity to understand creativity and explore techniques which can be used both individually and to stimulate groups. It combines this with the rigour related to accurate diagnosis of ‘issues’ and effective implementation  – turning ideas into action! 

Course Membership

Anyone who needs both creativity and analytical skills to solve problems or develop new opportunities.  The course is particularly relevant to team leaders who want to stimulate creativity within their teams.

Course Objectives          

  • To help participants develop both a creative and structured approach to problem solving

  • To equip participants with a range of techniques they can use to run 'creative thinking & problem solving sessions'

  • To provide an opportunity for participants to focus on some of the real problems faced by their teams and organisations and consider ways to 'move things forward'

Course Outline 

  • Introduction to creative thinking & problem solving

  • Innovation & creativity in organisations and teams – ‘continuous improvement’

  • The interaction of creative and analytical thinking

  • Factors that inhibit creative thinking

  • ‘Group-think’

  • Creativity and how the brain works

  • Thinking hats and thinking styles

  • Facilitating creative problem solving sessions

  • Decision making – intuition, participation, risk taking

  • Implementing change - getting support and making it happen

  •  Techniques include:
  • Brainstorming 

  • Pattern notes and spider-grams

  • SWOT & PEST analysis

  • Slip techniques

  • Random stimulation techniques

  • Fishbone, how-how and why-why techniques

  • Attribute modification

  • Decision matrices

  • Force-field analysis 

  • Course Methods 

    Creative Thinking & Problem Solving involves participants in lots of exercises and discussion!
