Institute & Cabinet Office warn of complacency in face of risks
A recently published report from the
Chartered Management Institute and the Cabinet Office
reveals that too few organisations have geared themselves up
to manage major disruptions such as electronic attacks,
severe weather, infrastructure failure or epidemics.
Based on the views of 1,012 senior
executives from across the public, private and voluntary
sectors, key findings include:
·
Low level protection: only half (52%) of the
respondents questioned said their organisation had plans in
place to cope with business disruption.
·
Casual approach: 32% of organisations don’t
test their continuity plans at all, a figure that remains
largely unchanged since 1999 (30%). Just 21% of Boards take
responsibility for business continuity management, down 8
points in two years.
·
Registering risk: UK managers are most worried
about electronic attacks (58%), human disease knocking out
the workforce (57%), the impact of severe weather (52%), and
destruction of critical infrastructure (50%). However, just
42% of organisations have plans in place to cater for IT
loss and only 30% are prepared to cope with enforced absence
of staff or severe weather.
The full report, called ‘A Decade of Living
Dangerously’, is available here.
ProSeminar offers diploma programme
Participants attending ProSeminar's
Introduction to Management Workshop can now extend their

first cohort of students kicked off with enthusiasm in June
2008 and included participants from the Rail Safety Board, Point

Diploma in Management Programme for more details.
Helping the police with
their enquiries
ProSeminar has been helping the Met with
their enquiries - or more specifically helping them with their
training needs. So far ProSeminar has run two in-house
programmes,
Strategic
Thinking & Business Planning with Jean
Pousson and
Creative Thinking
& Problem Solving with Philip Moon. Now the
Met have committed themselves to further courses on
team-working and communication skills. Other forces to
use ProSeminar's services include the West Midlands
Police. See
In-Company
Programmes for details of how we could help your
organisation.
New training centre a
big hit
ProSeminar moved to a new training centre
back in January 2008 and it's proving very popular with
participants and trainers alike. The new centre is at
Regus Monument conveniently located in the heart of the
City. 'It's great' said one recent course participant
'very relaxed and comfortable with great views'. A
quality environment is essential for quality training.
